WCAG Library Show

The Williamson County Art Guild is sponsoring a juried show at the Georgetown Library for its members. The show is now hanging there through the month of November. I have two large pieces from my new series hanging in the main room. They look great on the wall and I was amazed that I got so many compliments from our members on my work. Those of us on the board of the Art Guild have been trying to educate our members regarding the purpose and value of non-representational art. The compliments from them were really appreciated as I have been trying very hard with this series to make it conceptual rather that pictoral.

Waterloo Watercolor Fall Exhibit

A great surprise came my way a couple of weeks ago. I entered two paintings in the Austin Waterloo Watercolor Fall Exhibit. The show was juried by a well respected painter and juror, Christopher Schink. I won awards for both of my entries, First place for Rainforest and a Merit Award for Grampa's Farm. Boy was that exciting!

Georgetown Art Hop

Georgetown Art Works first juried exhibition was held in October. Jerry Seagle, a well known Austin artist juried the exhibit. My painting "Beach Party" was accepted into the show and hung in the library. This group put together in just 5 months a great new art venue for Georgetown.

Other Than Art

I don't spend all my time painting. I'm a volleyball groupie. Granddaughter making a kill at Junior Olympics.

Lots of New Pieces

I've been busy painting since I returned from my vacation in the Pacific Northwest. Some of the new pieces are on the left. Remember to see more of my current work, check out my web page at www.suenoslergray.com. It was a great trip with lots of bays, harbors, oceans, rivers to enjoy. I spent one day white rafting on the McKenzie River in Oregon. Cold....and wet with water temp at 48 degrees. It was snow yesterday! Boy was that fun!

New Paintings Above

ITunesMaze, For Sis, Reflected and Char's Deck 2. Some artists poo-poo pouring. It is one of the most interesting techniques for applying paint. If you want to paint abstracts or water, this technique is very usefull. I'm uploading 4 new pieces today and two of them were almost exclusively poured. The medium made for this technique is acrylics. I dilute the paint to syrup consistancy, pour it on the canvas or paper, then move the piece around in whichever direction I want the paint to flow. I also spray it with water and for some really interesting effects, use a hair dryer to move the pigment around. Most of these pieces are multi-layered. Usually at least 10 layers and sometimes more. The paint has to dry before the next layer is applied. It is really interesting to watch a design come forward. When the piece is nearly completed, I do some work with a paint brush to add value and sometimes color.
