And then on Hot Press W/C paper

Same process, watercolor crayon on paper.  This time I did not need to use the fixative as these are on paper and will be framed under glass.  More aspen above is titled,  "Again September"  and is a Colorado memory.   We lived basically in an aspen grove.   There is nothing quite like being surrounded by all that color and shimmering leaves.  It is amazing.   12x16 on hot press w/c paper.
Heading back to Oregon in the lower one.  I think I spent nearly every week-end enjoying a million places that look just like this.   Rivers and streams are around every corner in that place.  Title  "Just a Creek"  10x12 on w/c paper.

I started with watercolor crayon on canvas.  Oh yes, it works.  With a little fixative and some finishing with oils, these were the beginnings of my fall work.    I grew up in Oregon and spent many years living in Breckenridge, Colorado, my love for the woods always appears in the heat of the Texas summers.   I decided that if I wasn't able to travel up north in the summer, well that's ok, I would paint out of my memory.       Some things are never forgotten.   And the images of the those amazing places, never leave my mind.  So Ok....I will just paint what I feel and care about and with that intention, the painting began again.
These paintings are both on 25x25  gallery wrap canvas. 1. is titled  "Just the Woods"  and 2.  "September"

Catching Up....... Finally

Have you ever gone six months without painting, without any inspiration, any desire...  Well I never experienced it before and  it is interesting.

Finally during the summer I decided to bring out my watercolor crayons, actually all the way into the living room where I could watch youtube and Bein sports on my tv.   Shamefull!!!   Also the watercolor crayons aren't dangerous to my furniture....   Well here come the Colorado and Oregon landscapes.   All from memories from a zillion trips to the ocean beaches, rivers, lakes and moutains in Oregon where I grew up and then....the same, only different from my years living in Breckenridge Colorado.      They will start arriving here if I can figure out how to get them from my phone.    Too lazy to turn on my computer so I am hoping to accomplished this via Ipad and Phone.

March Madness, Daliesque and Sun and Energy

Titles are never written in stone.    I am constantly changing my mind about such things.  But, these three paintings come from the thoughts in my head built from my most recent experiences.

I came home to my favorite time of year, Spring.  Bright sun and colors beginning to appear everywhere.  This is March..... 36x36 acrylic on canvas.

I know, it very Daliesque..thus the name.
This is a gouache on 30x22 hot press paper.

All of a sudden, the sun is bright outside and the energy in the Spring air charges everything.   You can almost cut it with a knife it is so powerful.   I am still debating with myself for the title of this 30x22 gouache/watercolor on hot press paper.

6 Day Cruise ART News

I came home from a great adventure and was motivated to return to my water mediums, namely gouache, watercolor and acrylic.  I must have been motivated by  Level 5 next to the Atlantic on The Explorer of the Seas.   What fun on this 6 day cruise with my Sister and her two daughters.   This 6 day trip to Nassau and Mexico changed my mind about the sport of crusing.   Lots of exercise walking around the giant ocean going horizontal 50 story hotel.  That was an overuse of adjectives but I could think of many more.     Such fun.  I had millions of images in my mind;  interesting people and a million other things but it was the energy and vastness of the oceans that made me want to paint again.    I have finished to works on paper and one large acrylic so far.   Here we go..............

New Cold Wax Pieces

I was thinking about a windy rainy day when I created this interesting piece.   It also has a "Looking at Car Wash Soapy Window"  appearance...but I was thinking about rain.   36x36  Cold Wax/Oil Title "Rain and Car Wash".

This 20x16 Cold Wax painting was great fun to build.  I started by painting a red base coat with oil paint applied thinly.   After that I applied several layers of white and light neutral colors of heavy cold wax/oil paints.  Then with a bit of blue added and some scratching and scraping through the many layers it arrived in its present form.  Right now it is titled just "Orange and blue with neutrals"

25x25 Cold Wax/Oil on canvas.  Makes me think of fall and pumpkins....but I was actually thinking about a view I once saw from an airplane.   Title,  "Pumpkins Below"

So many designers and home owners paint their walls with the darker colors.  This 36x36 Cold Wax Oil painting was created to hang on a darker tan, brown, or darker value wall.  It is very bright has bits of gold showing here and there.   I love the texture!    Actually all of these four paintings are heavy with texture.   Title,   "For Your Dark Wall"
